Speaking of Schools...

via Zoom
For the moment, more students are back in school as COVID's rampage has waned. Some families may have moved within the city to save money on rent, and others may have been able to buy affordable homes in 'up and coming' neighborhoods. We got to thinking about the ways that the 'new normal' raises some new issues in land use, and exacerbates some old ones. Join Westside Urban Forum for a lively and wide-ranging discussion about LAUSD's public and charter schools, and their intersection with land use issues in our city.
The conversation will touch on land use issues connecting schools and communities, including:
- What are the impacts of gentrification on LAUSD school populations and education services?
- Does co-locating charter schools on LAUSD campuses help or hinder the goal of equity in education?
- How can more communities use school properties after hours?
- Is it feasible to use LAUSD school properties for affordable housing? Who decides?
